  1. Congratulations!!

    All the best

    I hava a chess question:

In your opinion what are the pros & cons of playing G/29 vs G/30?

    For scholastic & adult players?

    Thank you

  2. I also agree with the former poster. Congrats on getting married and stuff. But really what I want to know is do you think it's more useful to play the 3 minute pool or the 5 minute pool on ICC? Thanks!

  11. yeah... he's pretty good looking. another question: let's say you had a choice between two husbands

husband A scores a 7.5 out of 10 on looks and a 2.5 out of 10 on intelligence + personality

husband B scores 5 our of 10 on looks and a 5 out of 10 on intelligence+ personality

    which one do you pick?

  19. I was in I.S 318 when you went to teach chess, if it wasn't for you I would have never cared for it, to me you were someone so unique in Brooklyn, I was only 12, I saw you like a glass doll so beautiful and intelligent. I looked up to you so much. When I knew chess time would be coming I would get excited, I remember when you sent us all home with our own sets. For a child who's family struggled financially that was such an amazing gift. I am happy to see your life is going good and that you found love :) Thank you Elizabeth!

  21. Hi Everyone,
I'm back from Vietnam / Myanmar (Burma for the old folks) where any URL containing the word 'blog' is censored! Sorry for the absences.

    Thanks for all the well-wishes!
yes, Mariah, you should try your hardest to call me Mrs. Spiegel, but the old reliable "Miss" will do in a pinch.

Anon 12:09 am Thank you so much for writing that. It's the nicest thing I heard anyone (who actually had to sit through it) say about my teaching in a long time, and it made me so happy.

Ted search -- two suggestions: 1. there are nice places that do a lot of the world for you
    and
    2. skip all the stupid conventional stuff: favors, flowers, matching bridesmaids dresses, table displays, professional invites, etc.: no one cares and it's a huge time and money sink.

  22. Mazel Tov Mrs. Spiegel, so many blessings. I watched the movie, and although I know nothing about chess, it was incredible to see your teaching changing lives in front of my eyes. I can't believe you gave up your time 7 days a week. What an inspiration you are, what a heroine. And more prosaically you look absolutely radiant in that gown! I wish you all the joy in the world.

  23. Brooklyn Castle is superb. You're so smart! You're a very dedicated, talented, and tactful teacher. I loved how you put chess in context, and explained how it teaches useful life skills.

Louise Mensch is right, you are such an inspiration and a heroine.

    Hope all is well
