I'm playing on an Amateur Team (east) with Tim Mirabile, Jason Luchan, and Joel Salman. We need your help thinking of a name. So far we have:
Funkmasters of the New Idolatry
Gillian Welch
The Torpedoes
Svetozar
Like Love Like Music
Alabama Getaway
Believe Me You
The Topical Gels
Metamorphysis
Umpteen Times
The Dark Knights
Forgetting Frank Marshall
The Curious Case of Benjamin, Joel
TISDALL-E
Hedgehog Millionaire
You can vote, or you can suggest a new name.
As far as prizes.... ? ... I'll buy the winner a drink? (Yes, Matt, I owe you a drink already, I haven't forgotten)
How about, "Yes, We Kann!"

The other shoe.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why I find Svetozar the funniest team name I have ever heard, but I do. The only thing that would make it funnier is an exclamation point:
ReplyDeleteSvetozar!
Love it.
Rick Massimo
The Sound of Music
ReplyDeleteCharge of the Light Brigade
The Four Horsemen

ReplyDeleteor maybe
Watch out you are being blogged.
I like "Yes We Kann!"
ReplyDeleteI will accept payment for anything in beer.

Movie names, if wanted movies a bit less popular
ReplyDeleteZwischenzug, New York
Waltz with Bishops
I like the first and last of your choices, and additionally suggest "McDef Jamburglar and the Bacon Double Jack Masters."
ReplyDeleteHedgehog Millionaire
ReplyDeleteSteam Pawnkz
ReplyDeleteInteresting team. What's the board order?
ReplyDelete3 guys and a teach
ReplyDeleteActually Anonymous, all four of the team members are chess teachers.
ReplyDelete"Funkmasters of the New Idolatry" sounds great.
ReplyDelete"On Board One, Obama ... "
ReplyDelete"Ylon Schwartz Fan Club"
board order is Tim, Joel, Elizabeth and Jason

how about team "Ms. Vicary is unfairly attractive"
ReplyDeleteThere's also a Sixties theme at this year's USAT-E. Couldn't you do something with the hippie counterculture, the Vietnam War, the Kennedy assassination, Kent State, the Beatles, or Star Trek (original series)?
ReplyDeleteFor example, come dressed as Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy and Lt. Uhura, and call yourselves "Trek Mates."
"We're about to"
ReplyDelete-PCA
I don't know about a name, but the team mantra should definitely be, "These pieces ain't your boss. You're the boss of them pieces."
ReplyDeletealso:
ReplyDelete"P.S. We Schooled You"
Let's face reality about who is the star:
ReplyDeleteMs. Liz Vicary and the Supremes
No one really knows who those other guys are nor cares.
it's not a variety show
ReplyDeleteIn remembrance of last year's name and rating incident, how about "gggg".
ReplyDeleteThe obvious one in light of the election is "Yes, We Kann".
How about "Those Who Can and Teach"
Ms. Vicary, I'm sorry you won't be considering naming the group after yourself - it would have been worth getting a team shirt with you and rest of the Supremes

Mirabile dictu, Vicary! Luchan, Salman?
You could call yourselves the Washington Squares. And then come to the tournament dressed as the Washington Squares.
ReplyDelete"Yes, We Kann!" suggests a willingness to wait passively behind a Caro-Slav pawn formation. Sorry, we expect New Deal activism.
ReplyDeleteWhile subject to the same critique, "Yes, We Kan!" is somewhat more militant.
If you want to go all PC (elliptically referencing drawing a parallel between the ordeals of Michelle's ancestors & those of Mir Sultan, who really deserves a posthumous GM title), there's "Yes, We Khan!"
Alternatively, Svetozar! will do.

ReplyDeleteElizabeth: Has your team decided on a name?
ReplyDeleteMysteriousMeatBalls does not sound that bad
ReplyDeleteI found it!
ReplyDeleteSam Sloan Kids
Yes, who won the contest???
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you have a winner yet, but if not, you could name your team "Vicaryous Thrills". That's my entry if there's still a contest.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we entered the tournament with the name "Madoff With Your Pieces", I surely would have voted for "Vicaryous Thrills" if only
ReplyDeleteyou had posted this a little earlier.

Too bad I missed the deadline. Your approval means a lot to me though, like looking at someone else's position during a game & knowing I could have won. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that I'll be able to make it to USATE this year. Best of luck to "Madoff With Your Pieces" for both naming & playing.
