Xtreme Chess Championships

This Friday, at 7 pm, I'll be joining Greg and Jenn Shahade and Daniel Meirom, for the premier of their project, the Xtreme Chess Challenge, a made-for-tv knockout tournament of 8 of the top American juniors, including IS 318's own NM Justus Williams.

Watch the trailer on youtube or see the show's website. Come join us Friday to see the whole show!

That intro seems kind of overproduced... and the announcing girl is not impressing me greatly either... I dunno I guess it's harder to make a reality TV show than people think... cuz this sure looks pathetic...

Chess for people with super-short attention spans? "Does not compute." This seems like throwing the essence of chess out the window for the sake of featuring "some of the best young people"- reasonably attractive people of dubious chess accomplishment- making sure there are a few token black people and women thrown into the mix. Why were these people chosen? I hope this is not going to appear anywhere serious. I am embarrassed for U.S. chess. What is the point, seriously? To make chess appeal to dumb people?

Greg's sweater looks like a 1960s visualization of fashion in 2100.

(Couldn't resist)
