IS 318 tournament photos

Adam

Farai and Azeez play blitz; Rashawn spins a basketball while talking to Pobo; Mitch Fitzko looks in our classroom library.

Humriah thinks

Jack shows me his game. Haby watches. In the back, Alexis is putting his game into Fritz, William is sitting and Avery walking.

Jacob Barayev complains to tournament director Rochelle Ballantyne that the misrecording of his first round win as a loss means that he must now face a very weak player.

Kenneth: bundled up

Kamil played a very nice game in chess club today:

(358) Chmielewski,Kamil - Tapia ,Carlos [B14]
19.03.2012

1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.c4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e6 6.Nf3 Be7 7.Bd3 dxc4 8.Bxc4 Nc6 9. 0-0 b6

This is semi-clever of Carlos, trying to take advantage of white's bishop being on c4-- he's thinking of the position after 7. cxd5 Nxd5 8. Bd3 0-0 9. 0-0 Nc6 10. Re1 when black can't play 10... b6 because of the looseness of the knight after 11. Nxd5 exd5 12. Bxh7 Kxh7 13. Qc2+ and trying to sneak the move in here.
10.d5! exd5
11.Nxd5 Nxd5
12.Bxd5 Bb7

13.Ne5 Kamil plays this beautifully.
13... Bb4+  After the game, Carlos said he thought he should have played 13...Nxe5 14.Bxb7 Nd3+ 15.Kf1 Nxf4 16.Bxa8 Qxa8, but Kamil had seen that he wins after 17.Qa4+! b5 18.Qxf4]
14.Kf1 Nxe5
15.Bxb7 Rb8 [15...Qxd1+ 16.Rxd1 Rb8 17.Bxe5 Rxb7 18.Bxg7 Rg8 19.Bh6+/=]
white to move?

16.Bxe5 [16.Qa4+! is the best move, and the reason black should have exchanged on d1 last move 16... Qd7 17.Qxb4 Rxb7 18.Bxe5]
16...Rxb7 [again, black would be almost ok if he exchanged here: 16...Qxd1+ 17.Rxd1 Rxb7]
17.Qa4+! Rd7
18.Qxb4  and white won

In Carlos vs Kamil when d5 was pushed Carlos could have played the excellent looking Na5 which chases the bishop and wins the d5 pawn

Your notation gives 9.0-0 in the post, when it seems to have been 9.Bf4
