In 2005, Texas passed a constitutional amendment that reads,
"This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage."
They were trying to ban gay marriage, but seem to have gotten the wording a little off. read more

Off topic, but can you believe the story with Tiger Woods? The man makes millions, is the best in the world at his chosen sport, married a HOT Swedish model - he has the perfect life. And he apparently cheated on her, she confronted him, beat the crap out of him, and he gets into an accident while trying to get away from her.
One attorney's politically motivated opinion should not generate conclusory headlines.
OK, this is certainly not all "one attorney's politically motivated opinion", but it's a messy mixture:
* The man makes millions,
I suppose we could debate how much of this he keeps.
* is the best in the world at his chosen sport,
I'd bet anyone who argues with this doesn't play much golf.
* married a HOT Swedish model -
About as HOT as they get, but I suppose that's somewhat subjective.
* he has the perfect life.
OK, I'll give you this one; clearly only Elizabeth Vicary has the perfect life.
* And he apparently cheated on her,
This certainly depends on your (their) definition of "cheated", so could be media spin.
* she confronted him,
When (in relation to other, mostly unmentioned events), where, & how the confronting happened might modify this claim.
* beat the crap out of him,
I haven't read enough about this story yet, but this is both mildly amusing & pathetic, so it's probably media spin also.
* and he gets into an accident
There are no accidents in chess, probably not many in golf either.
* while trying to get away from her.
Do we know what he was thinking while he drove into a fire hydrant?
(Would that be considered a water hazard?)
It's safe to say they both have attorneys & there'll be lots of spin.
I'm not sure what part(s) of it if any I believe.
